POOLE QUAY SET FOR NORMAN INVASION

Poole Quay is gearing itself up for its annual Gallic invasion this weekend. The popular French Street Market, which takes place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September, will be stretching out its stalls along the water’s edge with tempting treats for shoppers.

Now in its sixth year, the French Street Market is a winning attraction that draws thousands of visitors and residents each year. With more than 25 traders who come over from Cherbourg and across Normandy, there will be a wide variety of French goods on offer, ranging from baguettes, cheeses and traditional sausages, to fine perfumes, kitchenware and jewellery. Stalls will be open from 10am to 6pm on both days.

Anne Simpson, French Street Market Co-ordinator, said: "Like the Liverpool Victoria Summer Festival Thursday Evenings, the French Street Market is as popular with local residents as visitors. One of the reasons the event has been such a fantastic success in past years is that it gives everyone the chance to continue enjoying the summer mood into September. Local brass band Gugge 2000 will be providing music to add a carnival atmosphere to the continental street scene over the two days".

The success and popularity of the French Street Market means that Poole is likely to be very busy over the weekend, especially on the roads and car parks.

The main Quay area car parks are located at Old Orchard, Hill Street and Dear Hay Lane, and those in the Town Centre at Kingland Road, Seldown Bridge and Dolphin Swimming Pool.

The large surface car park at Baiter is a good alternative to these and this also has a road train stop point that can transport you to the Quay. In addition, there will be free car parking available at the Civic Centre surface car park where people can then catch the road train to the Quay from outside the Cygnet Continental café bar in Poole Park. The road train will not take its normal route down the old High Street and along the Quay due to the road closure. It will stop outside Poole Pottery; normal fares will apply.

Poole Quay will be closed between the roundabout by Poole Pottery and the junction between the High Street and the Quay. Traffic will also be unable to enter the Quay from West Street (access to Thames Street will be unaffected) but can turn left out of the High Street onto the Quay towards Poole Bridge.
