A free course is being offered to the people who live Poole and care for a relative or friend at home.
Whether caring for someone with a disability or serious illness or someone who needs help with everyday life, the Borough of Poole’s Carers Course includes sessions on carers rights, claiming benefits, care techniques including back care for those who need to lift or move others and safety in the home.
Val Mitchell, Carers Support Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "Caring for someone at home can be really difficult with one of the biggest problems a feeling of isolation. The courses offer a welcome break and chance to meet other people in a similar situation. As well as providing, advice and reassurance, the courses have been really popular providing help and friendship which has been a real lifeline for many people."
A low cost care service which employs fully trained and approved care attendants is also available to look after the cared for person whilst carers attend the course. For carers over 65 the care service is free.
The course starts on Thursday, 26th October and runs between11am and 2pm every Thursday for eight weeks.
If you would like to attend the course, please telephone Val Mitchell or Lynne Payton (01202) 261170/4.
