POOLE'S FESTIVAL EVENING FINALE
THE SUMMER of festival fun on Poole Quay goes out with a bang next Thursday 31st August 2000 at the final Liverpool Victoria Summer Festival Evening.
This will also be the last Festival evening sponsored by Liverpool Victoria and completes their three year sponsorship support of the highly successful event. Run every Thursday throughout July and August, the Festival Evenings have this year attracted more than 200,000 people over the nine weeks this year and an estimated £1 million boost to spending revenue on the Quay.
The organisers of the popular event are in discussions of how festival evenings can carry on next year.
Main attractions for the final evening include:
· a special final night firework finale display just before 10pm to coincide with the arrival of the Barfleur ferry from Cherbourg
· The return of the popular Para's freefall tower - opportunity for everyone to have a go
· The 'Bat Boat', a V24 production offshore powerboat will be displayed by Steve Cunningham who is attempting to break the world blind water speed record in early September. Steve, who is from Oxfordshire has been blind for 25 years.
· RNLI Sea Safety Roadshow.
The entertainment for the evening will feature all the normal street entertainment such as jugglers, stilt walkers and fire jugglers along with the Poole Borough Band, the Bournemouth Samba Band, local saxophonist Paul Riley, and the bands Beyond Belief on Earthkind's Ocean Defender. and Total Eclipse in the marquee opposite Thistle Hotel.
Special Events Officer, Anne Simpson said, 'We've had tremendous support from the public at this year's Festival Evenings and our last night promises to be one of the best. This may be the last Festival Evening, there's more to look forward to with the French Street Market next on the calendar on 9-10 September,'
