15 Aug 00LARGEST FREE FESTIVAL ON THE SOUTH COAST
Festival fever has hit Poole this summer as the largest free festival on the south coast continues this Thursday on Poole Quay. With over 20,000 people taking part in the carnival atmosphere each Thursday throughout July and August, the events are proving the most popular ever with local people and visitors alike.
New attractions for this week include Cable Channel's Trouble TV Vox Box in which young people can make video messages and music from Colin Medick's Gentlemen of Jazz and Bournemouth Samba Band.
Local residents Tina Hodd, Michelle Sanders and Paul Edmondson will experience a close shave at 8.00pm, the Shambles, Poole Quay, when they have their heads shaved in aid of Muscular Dystrophy.
Anne Simpson, Special Events Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "I'm sure everyone will be supporting Tina, Michelle and Paul with their hair raising experience and we hope the good weather will continue whilst they get used to their new look! The fun starts at 6.00pm on Poole Quay with jugglers, music and dancing to suit every taste and ends with a firework finale which is just getting better each week. Anyone thinking of coming down, should get here early to make sure they don't miss out on any of the fun!"
To help relieve congestion, early arrivals this week can take advantage of free parking for up to 300 vehicles at the ferry passenger terminal, in Hamworthy which is only a short walk across Poole Bridge from the summer festival fun.
To give visitors the chance to walk around events freely and safely, the Quay will be closed to traffic from the High Street to Fishermans's Dock between 4.00 pm-11.30 pm each Thursday evening throughout July and August.
