BLOOMING POOLE IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE

Blooming Poole is officially a beautiful place according to judges in this year’s Southern England in Bloom Competition.

Beating stiff competition in the City category of the awards, Poole pipped entries from Basingstoke, Fareham and Gosport and impressed the Judges with recycling and Agenda 21 initiatives such as the Tatnam Organic Allotment.

During the competition Judges examined floral displays at Sandbanks, Poole Park, Upton Country Park, Longfleet School, roundabouts and private front gardens. In addition to the explosions of colour around Poole, the town was judged on the involvement of local community groups and the increasing importance of environmental issues, including recycling, organic gardens and allotments.

Judges also highly rated the composting of green waste from parks and roadside verges and the commitment to use environmentally friendly LPG vehicles by Continental Landscapes which looks after the Borough’s parks on behalf of the Council.

As part of the competition Longfleet School received a highly commended for environmental projects in the category for Best Schools Involvement.

Cllr Graham Wilson, Chairman of the Culture and Leisure Committee, said: "The community involvement in this year’s competition has been outstanding and we have been overwhelmed by the amount of work that has gone into all of the wonderful displays around the town. Winning this year’s competition is a wonderful recognition of all this effort which and would not have been possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved."
