2 Aug 00LOCAL HISTORY DAY WITH POOLE MUSEUM SERVICE AND BBC RADIO SOLENT
Poole Museums Service and BBC Radio Solent are working together to present a Local History Day in Poole that will include live BBC Radio Solent coverage during the morning. It will be a lively event and it is open to Local History, Family History, Archaeological and related societies in the BBC Radio Solent region.
The day will take place on Saturday 16 September 2000, between 9.30am and 4.00pm at Corfe Hills School, Higher Blandford Road, Broadstone, Poole.
BBC Radio Solent will be advertising the event extensively and it is expected that this will attract a large number of societies and a large public response on the day.
The Day is intended as a meeting place for people new to Local and Family History. They will be able to talk to societies and experts and obtain information on how to get started researching their family history. Societies will benefit by being able to raise their profile and attract new members.
Societies are encouraged to bring display panels and research archives, an area for research will be provided. Larger societies are asked to bring equipment such as computers and fiche readers. The event will include a stand promoting the new Poole Local Studies Centre. The Centre will be opening in the Waterfront Museum on Poole Quay during this autumn.
BBC Radio Solent will be interviewing members of the public on the day and are interested to hear of local or family history discoveries
