1 Aug 00POOLE LOCAL PLAN
1 August 2000
For the next six weeks, local people will be able to view and comment on the latest update of the ‘Poole Local Plan’ which sets out policies and proposals for the development of land in the Borough until 2011.
The proposals made in the Poole Local Plan First Alteration, will bring it in line with countrywide policies and proposals set out in the Dorset Structure Plan for transportation, housing, the economy and the environment .
Principal alterations made to Poole’s Local Plan, which was adopted in August 1998, include:
· Transportation - More emphasis on cycling, walking and public transport. Better provision for rail freight and allocation of park and ride sites.
· Housing - Locating housing to reduce the need to travel by car, using brownfield sites where possible and seeking quality in housing and urban design.
· Employment - Identifying existing and future employment areas, provision for small businesses and requirements for Green Transport plans for new office developments.
· Central Area - Creating a focus of activity and development in and around the town centre with better access for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. Making the best use of land for the new Poole Bridge proposals.
The Poole Local Plan First Alteration can be studied and commented upon at the Economic Development and Strategic Planning Unit - Civic Centre, all Poole Libraries and on the Council’s website - www.poole.gov.uk (under ‘Action Plans’) until 11th September 2000. The Civic Centre is open from 8.30am and 5.15pm Mondays to Thursdays and between 8.30am and 4.45pm on Fridays.

Notes to Editor:
Valid planning concerns raised on the alterations before 11th September will be included in the Poole Local Plan. It will then go out for comments again. If concerns remain after this second stage, the Plan will go to a public inquiry. It is anticipated that the Poole Local Plan First Alteration will be officially adopted in 2003.
