POOLE CELEBRATES QUEEN MOTHER'S 100TH BIRTHDAY at SUMMER FESTIVAL EVENING on POOLE QUAY, Thursday 3 August 2000

POOLE people will be amongst the first in the South to celebrate the Queen's Mother's 100th Birthday at a very special Liverpool Victoria Summer Festival Evening this Thursday on Poole Quay.

The Summer Festival Evenings are held every Thursday throughout July and August and attract over 20,000 people each week with an array of live music, street performers and entertainment.

This Thursday, as the Barfleur Ferry arrives from Cherbourg around 10pm and toots its horn, the crowds will be invited to sing 'Happy Birthday' to Her Royal Highness, accompanied by four different bands along the Quayside; a special "swing band" put together especially for the occasion, Purbeck Big Band, Poole Borough Band and Midnight Hour. This will herald the start of a spectacular fireworks display, which has been designed to be extra special this week and will include a special tribute to the Queen Mother.

Anne Simpson, Special Events Manager, Borough of Poole said;
"It's going to be a special night to celebrate a very special occasion. The Quay area will be decorated with bunting and streamers to create a real party atmosphere and all local businesses and festival participants holders have been asked to dress up their premises, boats and stalls.

There will be all the normal festival fun plus extra street entertainment arranged for the night and this includes jugglers, stilt walkers and balloon modellers. The popular Purbeck Big Band will be playing tunes from the past 100 years and leading up to a superb fireworks finale."
