NEW IDEAS FOR THE GUILDHALL

Two exciting new visions for Poole's historic Guildhall are going on display for public viewing from 31st July.

To restore public access to one of Poole's best known landmarks, the Borough of Poole has invited bids for the lease of the building which is currently used as a Museum store room.

Detailed submissions have been received from the Poole Arts Council in association with John B's Restaurant, and from Poole Pottery in association with the Old Town Conservation Group.

To give local people the chance to view and comment on the proposals contained in both schemes, displays will be available at the Waterfront Museum until Friday 18th August. Opening times for the Museum are 10am-5pm Mon-Sat and 12 noon-5pm Sundays.

Annette Brooke, Chairman of the Town Centre Working Party, said: "Both submissions have come up with an imaginative use which appear to fulfil our main criteria of restoring public access, respecting the dignity of the building, and improving the Guildhall's relationship with the town centre. It doesn't surprise us that each one involves an element of catering, which is a clear opportunity to help support the other critical factor of ensuring a business solution that underpins the viability of the proposals."

She added: "The display in the Guildhall is not so much about choosing between Scheme A and Scheme B but giving the public the opportunity to tell us about what they like about each one and helping to pinpoint any missed opportunity."
