Members of Wimborne and Poole Athletics Clubs and Poole Runners will take part in a Sports Centre Challenge to mark the completion of Poole’s new Athletics track.
Athletes from Poole are jumping for joy with the completion of Poole’s latest top class sporting facilities at Canford Heath.
The new £567,000 floodlit all weather athletics track funded by the Borough of Poole, Poole Sports Council, Sports England and the National Lottery also includes new facilities for pole vault, discus, javelin, high and long jump.
To celebrate, Poole’s athletes are being challenged to take part in a Sports Centre Challenge on Wednesday 19 July.
As well as race categories for athletes aged 8 and over the evening’s competitions will include 100m race to find the fastest sports centre member of staff and 100m top teacher race.
Andrew Muspratt, Vice-Chairman of Poole’s Culture and Leisure Committee and local Ward Councillor, said: "I’m delighted to see the new athletics track up and running. The lottery money we received has been very well spent on this superb new facility which will benefit all of our local athletes and schools. With the Olympics coming up it would be wonderful to think that a future champion was training in Poole. One thing is for sure, we are certain to see some top class performances!"
Peter Impett, Chairman of Ashdown Track Joint Committee, said: "The clubs and the schools in the area are delighted that the track has been completed. It opens up many opportunities for us to work with the local community to promote not only club athletics but a facility that all can enjoy."
