19 May 04Poole's New Mayor and Sheriff for 2004/2005

Councillor Les Burden has been elected as Poole's 756th Mayor at this year's Mayor Making Ceremony. Councillor Lou Knight was elected as Sheriff and Councillor Ray Smith, Mayor of Poole in 2003/2004, was appointed Deputy Mayor.
Councillor Les Burden has chosen to support four charity appeals. The charities chosen are the Dorset Association for the Blind, Chestnut Nursery, Breast Cancer Care at Poole Hospital and The Dorset Association for the Disabled.
The Mayor of Poole, Councillor Les Burden, said: "It is a great honour and a privilege to become Mayor of Poole and my wife, Maryrose and I are looking forward to representing and promoting the Borough and working with the people of Poole. We hope to have a successful year and welcome any ideas from our residents to help myself and my charity committee to benefit those less fortunate than ourselves."
The new Mayor of Poole has announced his two youth escorts, Emily Burton and Adam Marlborough from the Parkstone Sea Cadets who will accompany the Mayor on all Civic parades.

Councillor Lou Knight, Sheriff of Poole, who will be supporting the Mayor in Civic duties and responsibilities, said: "I am incredibly proud to have been elected as Sheriff of the Borough of Poole. It is a great privilege to represent this beautiful town of which I am immensely proud. My wife Angela and I are very much looking forward to working and supporting the Mayor and Mayoress throughout their time in office in promoting our town."
Rev Bob Mason of St James Church has been appointed as Mayor's Chaplain for the year.
