NEW GATEWAY FOR TURLIN MOOR

Photocall:
Entrance to Turlin Moor Estate - Blandford Rd / Turlin Rd, 2.20pm, Tuesday 18th July 2000 - Headteacher & pupils from Turlin Moor Community Middle School gather to celebrate their work in the new decorative railings at the Estate entrance with Mayor, Cllr Mrs Joyce Jones & Borough of Poole Officers.

New, decorative railings designed by children from Turlin Moor Community Middle School are currently being installed to enhance the entrance to the Turlin Moor Estate.

Earlier this year, the Borough of Poole’s Planning and Housing Management teams asked the Middle School pupils to help them find a winning design.

Jeff Royle, Turlin Moor Community Middle School’s Headteacher was delighted to be involved in the project. He said: "The competition generated a great deal of interest and pride among the pupils in their community. There were some fantastic entries and approximately 30 children were commended for their work. I’m also particularly pleased for the children who have had their designs featured in the railings. They will be a reminder of their contribution to the community for many years to come".

Family figures, sailing boats and a wave pattern by pupils at the school, Kayleigh Coleman, Louise Pillinger and Andrew Terry, were chosen to feature in the fencing.

In the Autumn, the school will also help the Council complete the project by planting a variety of trees and shrubs on each side of Turlin Road including areas of daffodil bulbs to make the area even more attractive.

Mayor of Poole and Ward Councillor, Mrs Joyce Jones, has strongly supported the scheme from the beginning. She said: "The railings and planting will provide an attractive and welcoming entrance to Turlin Moor and I congratulate the children on their imaginative ideas".

Editor’s Notes:
The railings are next to the colourful aquatic mural painted by students from Carter Community School, which one a special commendation in the prestigious Dulux Dimensions of Colour competition in 1998.
