Local Toilets Are Improving

All of the thirty public toilets within the Borough of Poole are currently benefiting from a facelift as part of the Pride in Poole initiative.

All works, which initially include external painting and repair of damaged woodwork, are due to be completed by the end of March 2005 and most of the toilets will soon be painted in traditional Borough of Poole colours, blue and white.

Ian Poultney, Team Manager, Environmental and Consumer Protection Services, Borough of Poole, said: “I believe that both residents and visitors to Poole will agree that these initial improvements are a positive investment and will further encourage a pride in our town and it’s public buildings.”

This is just the first stage of a major investment of over £100,000 per year to improve public toilets over the forthcoming years. The transformation will see complete refurbishment of the inside of the buildings to include more modern, environmentally friendly and easier to maintain fixtures and fittings.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “This is wonderful news for the town. Measures to control budgets and manage expenditure have meant that we are now able to invest in an area that has for so long needed attention. It is another great example of how the Borough is constantly improving.”
