Make a Difference Day Success

Two thousand bulbs, forty five sacks of waste, three hours of washing, scrubbing and sweeping and Adastral Square Canford Heath is looking a much brighter place thanks to a team effort by local volunteers on the latest Make a Difference Day.

The morning was organised as part of Council's Pride in Poole campaign, an initiative aimed at improving on the already good standards of cleanliness and appearance of our streets and public spaces, making Poole a place where both residents and visitors feel safe and secure to create a feeling of pride in our town.

Kate Langdown, Environmental Enhancement Officer, Environmental and Consumer Protection Services, Borough of Poole, said: "The day was a great success and it was really encouraging to see local people working hard to make a difference. A lot of effort was made by those involved and I hope that we will see more successes across the community in the future - a big thank you to all those involved."

The area was cleared of litter, graffiti and chewing gum, giving residents the opportunity to see the Council's new Environmental Response Unit in action. Windows were washed down and bulbs were planted outside the local church and library. The Council's caravan and information banners were on display with Council officers in attendance to answer questions and offer advice to local residents.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "The support of the public and local businesses makes a huge difference to what can be achieved. Many residents and businesses want to be involved in making Poole cleaner, greener and safer which is very encouraging and to be encouraged. Organising events such as this brings these people together and gives them the opportunity to become actively involved."
