28 May 04More Child Care Provision for Poole
Throughout June, the Borough of Poole’s Early Years Team are joining in on the National SureStart campaign month to promote this year’s theme, ‘Starting Early’. Poole Children’s Information Services, normally based in the Dolphin Centre Library, will be in Poole Town Square on Wednesday 2nd June, offering free information and advice on choosing childcare, early education, children’s activities and information on career opportunities in Early Years. Children will be able to visit the Play Bus on site for the day, while parents and carers pick up information packs. Councillor Tony Woodcock, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Education said "SureStart is the much welcomed Government unit set up to make life better for children, parents and the community by bringing together early education, childcare and family support. Poole has a target to create 811 new childcare places by March 2006 and we are ready for the challenge. Our childcarers, for all ages, are a valuable part of building a stronger and brighter community in Poole for this and all future generations." Funding has been allocated by the Surestart government unit to help meet these targets and an award may be available to any groups or persons wishing to set up new childcare provision or extend existing provision. This funding can be accessed through the Borough of Poole’s SureStart Partnership and to make things easier for applicants, free advice and support is available from the Partnership’s Business and Financial Advisors who will be on hand to assist in putting together Business Plans and Funding Applications. John Pay, Chair of the SureStart Partnership, said: "This is an excellent opportunity to extend childcare provision in Poole. Applications for all types of childcare provision will be considered; breakfast clubs, lunch clubs, after school clubs, holiday play schemes, full day care and childminders. We are also keen to hear from anyone interested in developing provision for children aged 8 – 12 years." Poole’s Children’s Information Service are promoting a range of fun activities and events throughout June to encourage more people to contact them and make the most of a whole range of support and information available.
