Over 500 local schoolchildren have entered this year’s colouring competition linked with Poole’s entry to the Southern England in Bloom awards. The competition involved colouring in a floral design by local illustrator Maria Burns who also judged the entries.
Eight winning entries have been chosen and the children have been invited with their parents to meet the Mayor and receive their prize of artists materials, sponsored by Sunseeker.
Chairman of the Poole in Bloom Committee, Sandra Moore said
"The high standard of entries made it very difficult to pick the final winners. Congratulations should really go to everyone that entered the competition. Now it’s fingers crossed for 11th July when Poole is judged in the Southern England in Bloom competition."
One of the criteria for the judging of Southern England in Bloom is to show projects and contributions by local schoolchildren and the winning entries will feature in a display to be shown to judges when they visit Poole on 11 July 2000. Judges will be taking a 3-hour tour around the Borough to see Poole’s floral displays in the parks and on the roundabouts, on frontages and private front gardens. They will also be visiting local nature reserves and the Local Agenda 21 organic farm project at Tatnam Farm. Poole will also be judged on absence of litter and cleanliness of the Borough.
