PACKE FAMILY MAUSOLEUM OPENS TO PUBLIC - SATURDAY 24 JUNE 2000

This summer’s public opening of the Packe Family Mausoleum, take place on the morning of Saturday 24th June 2000.

The Mausoleum was built in 1867 and is the last remaining evidence or the Packe family who owned most of what is now Branksome Park in the mid 19th century.

This small, stone, chapel-like building was hidden behind trees and dense vegetation until a few years ago, when, in 1993, the Borough of Poole took over the building and restored it to its current condition.

David Watkins, Local Studies Officer, Borough of Poole, said; "The building is really impressive and one of Poole’s historic corners which has a wonderfully rich history. Every year visitors are surprised when they see it. Since the mausoleum was ‘rediscovered’ it has proved a really popular site for both local people and visitors to Poole".

The Packe Mausoleum stands at the top of the road to Branksome Dene Chine car park, just to the rear of 25, Pinewood Road. There is no need to book, simply turn up at either 10.30 am 11.15 am and 12.00 noon.
