23 May 00NEW DIAL-A-BUS SERVICE TO BROADSTONE
An experimental new Dial-a-Bus service to Broadstone Village will be available from 6 June 2000 following a request from passengers.
Available on Tuesdays for a trial period of 6 months, the popular service will run to busy Broadstone. The usual town-centre destination will still be available the rest of the week.
Dial-a-Bus is a fully accessible door-to-door bus service for any Poole resident unable to use conventional buses due to problems with their mobility. The scheme is run in partnership with the Borough of Poole by Poole Council for Voluntary Service who operate Dial-a-Bus and Sainsbury’s who provide sponsorship.
Pick up areas covered by the new service include; Bearwood, Merley, Canford Heath, Oakdale, Creekmoor and Broadstone.
John McVey, Passenger Transport Manager, Borough of Poole, said "Running Dial-a-Bus to Broadstone will offer a new travel option for people who have difficulty getting out and about. Broadstone offers a variety of shops and businesses as well as an excellent library and places to eat and drink."
Chris Beale, Director of Poole Council for Voluntary Service, said: "It is important that Dial-a-Bus offers passengers a variety of destinations as the service is all about giving people opportunities and making Poole more accessible. By re-routing one of the Dial-a-Bus minibuses we have made the service more flexible and are making sure people get the service they want and need."
Dial-a-Bus journeys are booked in advance. There is a £1.00 joining fee and ordinary bus fares are charged. To use Dial-a-Bus people must be residents of Poole and will be asked for evidence of mobility problems.
