18 May 00BIGGEST BIN AND BUTT SALE IN THE COUNTRY!
Residents across Poole and Dorset have taken the environmental agenda to heart during the largest Compost Bin and Waterbutt sale in the country.
Following the success of individual sales last year - Councils in Dorset, which form the Dorset Recycling Group, joined forces on 7 May 2000 to host a bin and butt sale on the same day. With offers of free compost, local people snapped up nearly 9000 matching waterbutts and compost bins supplied by County Mulch Ltd at substantially reduced prices.
Sponsorship for the sale was provided by Wessex Water and Bournemouth & West Hants Water, as well as local waste companies SITA and Eco-Composting.
Louise Lowans, Recycling Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "We had an unbelievably successful day. The compost bins and waterbutts proved a hit with local people and are extremely useful. Not only can they help you save money, they really help the environment. By cutting down on the amount of green waste which goes into landfill and using rain water in the garden, everyone can make a real difference which will help to ensure Poole remains a beautiful place now and in the future".
The reduced price compost bins and waterbutts are available on mail order for anyone who missed the sale by contacting freephone: 0800 328 1076. Prices will be subject to an additional charge for postage. Due to the popularity of the scheme, when lines are busy callers may get an unobtainable signal. When this occurs, callers should try again later.
