3 May 00IMPROVEMENTS TO RECEPTION DESK, CIVIC CENTRE
Work to re-site and re-design the Main Reception desk at the Civic Centre, Borough of Poole, will begin on 5th May and provide reception employees with the much needed space to improve front line services. The new desk will be slightly larger and incorporate a lowered counter area to help provide assistance to people in wheelchairs. A new fire detection system will be housed in the area too, which will enable fire fighters to assess the exact location of a fire in an emergency.
Neil Rimmer, Borough of Poole's Facilities Manager said: " With up to 500 visitors to the Civic Centre every day, the new reception area will mean we can provide a better level of service to all our customers and especially people with disabilities".
The re-siting of the desk, from an isolated island in the centre of the reception area to the side wall will also increase the personal safety of reception employees and the Security Officer will be based within it so that any problems may be addressed.
The work, which is due to be completed by week commencing 12th June 2000, will see the erection of external signs on the building entrance to help visitors identify the Civic Centre Council offices.
Services provided by Housing and Revenues & Benefits in the Civic Centre will not be disrupted. Reception employees will be temporarily based in another area of reception while the works are being carried out.
