Mayor To Open Artists Exhibition

Mayor of Poole, Councillor Lou Knight will be opening the latest Ceramic and Print exhibition aimed for the Chrismas market by the talented artists groups, ‘15 Days in Clay and Studio 2’. The Mayor will also be presenting artists with certificates of achievement.

The event takes place at Faith House, Holton Lee near Sandford on November 8. Artists from the Borough of Poole’s Sea View Centre, Blandford Hospital, Poole College, and Poole Learning and Leisure Team, have worked together to produce this Christmas selling exhibition.

Janna Edwards, Lead Artist, Borough of Poole said: “There are many achievements to embrace at the opening of the exhibition with 15 Days celebrating their second anniversary of the project running, and the development of such outstanding work being produced by all of the artists taking part in the exhibition.  The exciting work on show is original and unique and shows what can be produced when individuals are enabled to work with professional artists in an inspiring setting, to develop their creative talents.“

Both projects are run from Holton Lee and were originally funded by Awards For All. The projects have been able to continue thanks to the help and support of the Borough of Poole’s Social Services, Poole Leisure and Learning Team, Bournemouth Arts Institute, Purbeck Adult Education and the Council’s Arts Development Unit.

Cllr Elaine Atkinson, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture & Community Support, Borough of Poole, said: “The group has worked extremely hard and produced some outstanding work thanks to this project. It shows what can be produced when individuals are inspired by professional artists and a creative environment and the results are a testament to their commitment and dedication.”

The 15 Days In Clay group are now able to continue by accessing Direct Payments which allows individuals to choose and pay for which day opportunity they would like to take part in, this will now enable a new day to be set up so a new group will now be able to access this unique opportunity.

The exhibition runs November 2-22 daily. However Faith House is sometimes used for private functions so may be closed. Please call 01202-625562 in advance to avoid disappointment.
