3 May 00NEW HARD OF HEARING SOCIAL CLUB
A new club for people who are hard of hearing is opening its doors to people in Poole.
Open to anyone with a mild to moderate hearing loss, the group offers the chance to meet, discuss experiences and take part in range of activities.
Roy Lockyer, from Concern for Hearing - East Dorset, said: "People who suffer from hearing loss frequently feel excluded and isolated when they cannot communicate readily and often avoid personal contact as a result. This can be particularly traumatic for someone living alone. Poole’s new club will help to restore confidence by offering regular, informal meetings with others who experience similar difficulties".
The next meeting of the group will take place on from 2.00 pm-4.00 pm, Tuesday 9 May at East Gate Lodge, the Park Gates entrance to Poole Park.
Andrew Creamer, Team Manager, Sensory & Physical Disability Services, said: "There are around one in seven people in Poole who experience difficulty with their hearing in certain situations such as supermarkets or in large groups. This club offers a chance for anyone with difficulties to meet people who share similar problems and experiences. At the moment we have over 16 enthusiastic members and are looking for more people to take part. If you are interested in the group and would like to meet new people or take part in new activities, please get in touch".
Anyone who would like more information on the club should contact the Sensory & Physical Disability Services Team, Borough of Poole, tel: (01202) 633645, 633642 or 633639.
