28 Apr 00PLANET POOLE - THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY
The start of the new millennium is a time to reflect on the past and look to what the future holds for our communities and the plant. Global warming, ozone depletion, crime, proverty, wind power, organic food, droughts, are changing the world and our communities rapidly in many ways. How can we make this a change for the better and improve quality of life for everyone, including future generations, whilst maintaining the planet's life support systems? How can we all do our bit for Agenda 21 to create a sustainable future?
Poole's Waterfront Museum is hosting an exhibition entitled 'Planet Poole', where visitors will discover some answers to these questions. Interactive entertaining displays and activities entitled 'Wealth from waste', 'Taking the heat off the Planet', 'Down the Drain', 'Off your trolley' and 'Choking Truth' will help visitors save money and see the world in a whole new light. The exhibition will give people a chance to calculate their own environmental impact and will offer practical tips for everyone on transport, energy, waste, water and other environmental issues.
Inspired by the national 'Are you doing your bit?' environmental awareness campaighn and Local Agenda 21, the Borough of Poole is starting to reduce the environmental impact of its activities. The Council has teamed up with a number of other organisations for Planet Poole to encourage everyone, residents, schools and visitors alike, to do their bit for Poole and the Planet too.
The Museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 5pm and on Sundays between noon and 5pm. Admission is £2.00 for adults and £1.35 for children except in August when admission to Scaplen's Court Museum is included and it will be £4.00 for Adults and £2.85 for children (Concessions apply)
