COME ON OUT & DO IT - GET OUT & USE IT

From abseiling and cycling to surfing the net, people from Poole are being encouraged to make the most of their leisure time at two special events on Sunday 7 May 2000, Baiter Park, Poole.

Hosted by the Borough of Poole and Dorset Police, young people aged 11-18 are being given the chance to Come on out and do it and take part in a fun filled day of activities. Hands on displays and information will be available between 12.00 pm-3.00 pm for anyone interested in trying something new in Poole.

Young people can find out about:
· drama
· arts and crafts
· surfing the net
· martial arts
· cycling/stunt riding/speedway
· waterbased activities
· indoor and outdoor sports

Christine White, Youth Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "This is great chance for young people to find out about activities they've never tried before. Although there are a lot of leisure pursuits available in Poole, sometimes people just are not aware of what is on offer. If you are interested in an activity just drop by and we'll provide all the information you need as well as a great afternoon's entertainment".

In addition, local people are being encouraged to take to their bikes in the Borough of Poole's Get it out and use it bike bonanza. The event which runs from 11.00 am-3.00 pm aims to promote cycling and is open to everyone. There will be a whole host of activities including a Stunt Team display (first display at 11.30am), Race Team, obstacle course, bike safety checks, competitions, cycle clubs and experts on hand to give advice about all aspects of cycling.

Sally Funnell, Cycling/Walking Officer, Borough of Poole, said: "With the start of the warmer weather, this is an ideal time for people to get out those bikes which have been rusting away in the shed or garage. Not only is it a good way to keep fit, cycling is a great way to see a lot of Poole's beautiful locations and with the cycle ways in the area it's never been easier".
