19 Apr 00ARCHAEOLOGY FINDS DAYS
In response to popular demand Poole Museum Service is arranginging a special event at Waterfront Museum where experts will be avialable to identify archaeological material found by members of the public. There are times when people discover material in their gardens which appears to be very old and possibly could be of historical interest, often they would like to know more about what they have found. It should be remembered that our harbour is also an important source of historic material and in 1964 yielded the Museums's ancient log boat. The museum has arranged an event so that people may bring their material and have it identified and learn what it maybe. Ciorstaidh Trevarthen (Dorset Finds Liaison Officer ) and Keith Jarvis of Poole Museums Service will be at the Museum to identify any items brought in. Many thousands of items are taken to public musuems throughout the country each year for identification. This process allows the finder to know something about what they have found and allows the community to learn more about the archaeological content of their area.
Admission to the Museum will be free to those bringing items for identification.
