Poole Achievement Awards 2006

Nominations are now being invited for the 2006 Poole Achievement Awards, which recognise the contributions individuals or organisations have made to making Poole a better place in which to live and work.

Organised by the Borough of Poole, the Awards are now in their 12th year and have gone from strength to strength attracting more and more entries each year.   This year, particular focus will be given to 'Celebrating the Volunteer', recognising those who have made a difference, however small it may seem, to the every day life of another.

Of the forty nominations received last year, ten winners were chosen including Edith Kentish, who was a local volunteer for over 30 years, the Poole Coastguard Team who provide 24/7 voluntary emergency cover for the Borough, and Tom Lewis, a 16 year old trampolinist who successfully represents the town at a national and international level.

The Mayor of Poole Councillor Mrs Judy Butt said: "This is a terrific opportunity to celebrate our unsung heroes, those people who put in a huge amount of effort and hardwork for the good of our community.  It is truly encouraging to see the high standard  of nominations each year and we are sure this year will be no different. We look forward to learning more about those people whose commitment and dedication is so invaluable.  The nomination form is simple to complete and you can call 633019 if you need further advice or assistance."

The deadline for entries is 27 October.  Individual nominees must live or work in the Borough and organisations must be located within the Borough.

Nominations forms can be obtained from a number of places across the Borough including the Civic Centre, the Dolphin Shopping Centre link will open in new window, leisure centres, youth clubs, libraries and museums.  People can also call 01202 633023 / 633019 for a form or download one at www.boroughofpoole.com.

The Awards will be presented at the Civic Reception & Awards Ceremony on 19th January 2007.
