POOLE ROAD AND POTTERY JUNCTION IMPROVEMENT SCHEME CONSULTATION EXTENDED

Consultation on road improvements for Poole Road and Pottery Junction has been extended to give local people more time to consider proposals.

Following comments from local residents, a further exhibition has been arranged at St Aldhelms Church Hall on 22-23 May for parishioners and members of the local community.

Cllr Lou Knight, Chairman of the Transportation Sub Committee, said: " Whilst we had a good response from the original exhibition, it became clear that some of the people effected by the scheme were unaware of the proposals and the consultation. In those circumstances we decided to give everyone another chance to see the exhibition which explain the schemes. I hope that everyone interested will take this opportunity and come along to hear about the proposals and give us their views".

As a result of the consultation, the decision on the road improvement scheme has been re-scheduled and will take place at the Borough’s Transportation Sub Committee on 27 June 2000.

Steve Tite, Highways Manager, Borough of Poole, said: "The main issue is the proposal to ban right turning traffic from Poole Road into St Aldhelms Road in order to provide space for a west bound bus lane. Whilst this will inevitably have an effect on local traffic crossing Poole Road, we have to consider all the options and provide the best solution to improve this busy road".
