7 Apr 00SNEAK PREVIEW OF POOLE'S DAY IN THE DOME
The hottest ticket in town is currently selling out for a special show on the history of Poole at Poole Arts Centre on Sunday 9 April.Devised and performed by over 70 children from schools across the Borough, the McDonald's Our Town Story focuses on the theme of Poole through the ages.
McDonald's Our Town Story is a unique project that gives every community in the UK a chance to tell their story locally and in the Dome at Greenwich. Led by their education authority or library board, communities from every part of the UK will tell the story of their past, present and future through music, drama, dance, poetry, song, the visual and multi media arts throughout the year 2000.
Children from Poole will be showing their talents with a unique mixture of music, art, drama and dance at the Dome on 4 May.
John Billington, a teacher from Carter Community School involved in the project, said: "It has been a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Poole's seafaring history has been a particularly strong theme which has inspired the students. This special preview performance is a chance for local people to experience and enjoy what is sure to be a spectacular event".
McDonald's Our Town Story is part of the Millennium Experience, a series of projects aimed at involving schools across the whole of the UK in millennium celebrations linked to the Dome at Greenwich. All 210 education authorities and library boards will be showcasing their own stories during their day in the Dome next year.

McDonald's Our Town Story has been made possible by McDonald's support. Every participating education authority and library board is being provided with £10,000 towards the cost of producing their McDonald's Our Town Story, plus free travel and accommodation for performers.
McDonald's is the official community sponsor of the Millennium Experience and is celebrating its 25 year history in the UK by providing £12 million to help the nation enjoy more of this unique moment of history.
McDonald's Our Town Story is part of the Millennium Experience's Learning Experience of events and activities.
