A1 HIRE DO THEIR BIT!

PHOTOCALL: A1 Hire, 76-88 Old Wareham Rd, Parkstone, Poole 3.30 pm, Tuesday 11 April 2000 Jan & Katie Robinson, owners A1 Hire, Cllr Bob Williams, Chairman of the Environment Policy Board, Tom Fidell, Director General of the LP Gas Association will be launching the new LPG vehicles. NB: If weather is poor, the photocall will take place on Wednesday 12 April at 3.30 pm.

Local company A1 Hire & Sales are "doing their bit" for Poole and their environment. Inspired by the national "Are You Doing Your Bit" Roadshow which visited Poole in August, the plant and tool Hire Company is replacing its diesel vehicles with new "clean fuel" vehicles.

Compared to the equivalent diesel truck, vehicles running on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) significantly reduce the amount of pollutants produced. Three new delivery trucks covering over 100,000 miles per year have been converted to run on LPG Autogas, helping to reduce pollution and improve local air quality.

Jan Robinson, owner of A1 Hire, said: "We are glad to be making a positive commitment to the future local air quality by using LPG Autogas and hope to have all seven of our vehicles converted. I have been really surprised at how much interest has been shown by customers and visitors during the first few days the new vehicles have been operating. We even have one customer who has ordered four new LPG converted vehicles for his company fleet".

"Are You Doing Your Bit" is a national campaign backed by a series of TV adverts starring Chris Evans, Zoe Ball and Eddie Izzard which aims to encourage people to do their bit to help preserve the environment by making small changes in their lifestyle -- such as car sharing, recycling or using environmentally friendly fuel.

Cllr Bob Willams, Chairman of the Environment Policy Board, said: "I’m delighted that the good example set at the "Are You Doing Your Bit Roadshow" has had such an effect. Whilst the roadshow was in town, over 6000 Planet pledges were signed committing people to making a difference to their lifestyle which benefits everyone. By changing to LPG fuel, A1 Hire has provided a superb example of how we can help improve our environment by using modern technology. To build on this, the Council will be co-hosting an Alternative Fuels Road Show at Upton House in June for anyone wanting to find out more about the options available".
