6 Apr 00POOLE BRIDGE RE-OPENING DELAYED
The re-opening of Poole's lifting bridge will be delayed for 48 hours due to last minute problems fitting and aligning the gears which lift the bridge.Jim Bright, Head of Construction Related Services, said;
'This bridge was built in 1927 and is a unique design. The modern replacement gears need to be slightly adapted to get the most precise fit needed for the bridge to lift smoothly. This is a job that the contractor and specialist manufacturer advise will take 48 hours to complete. We anticipate it will re-open on Tuesday. We would like to apologise for this delay and assure everyone that we are taking every step to ensure the bridge re-opens as soon as possible'.
Over the past four weeks the bridge Contractor, Qualter Hall have been working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Bridge project and will continue to do so and the work is complete.
During the closure, the free ferry service and extra bus services will continue to run as normal.
