Lessons for Life!

PHOTOCALL: Waterfront Museum, High Street, Poole Quay4.30 pm Tuesday, 4 April 2000Cllr Annette Brooke will launch Poole’s Lessons for Life School Resource Pack with teachers from Poole

A new resource pack to help Schools ‘do their bit’ to protect and improve Poole and the Planet is being launched.

Designed by the Borough of Poole, the free pack provides information and contacts to help teachers and support teaching on environmental issues. From September 2000, topics such as energy, water, waste, transport and the natural environment will included in the National Curriculum.

Poole’s Lessons for Life! pack also shows how schools can take action to reduce their impact on the environment by using energy and water resources more efficiently, reducing waste, looking at school travel plans and improving school grounds.

Councillor Annette Brooke, Chair of the Borough’s Education Committee, said: "Caring for the environment is really important to everyone but especially to young people. By working with our teachers, we can provide them with the information young people want and need. Everyone can play a part in helping to protect the environment which will make a difference and young people are the key to ensuring we keep Poole a beautiful place both now and in the future".

During the launch, teachers will be able to see some of the most up-to-date classroom resources, including website based material available to teach young people about sustainable development issues. Organisations including Earthkind and World Wide Fund for Nature will also be on hand with support for teachers.
