24 Mar 00CONSULTATIONS ON POOLE ROAD AND POTTERY JUNCTION
The Council are looking at ways to improve Poole Road and Pottery Junction. Poole Road suffers from serious traffic congestion for a large part of the day. This congestion delays public transport and causes air pollution.
At previous consultations local residents and traders have requested better pedestrian facilities around Pottery Junction. The current arrangement has little provision for pedestrians.
Analysis of the traffic problems at Pottery Junction shows that a major cause of congestion on the roundabout is stationary or slow moving traffic on Poole Road. Therefore to make any significant improvement to the roundabout it is necessary to look at the problems on Poole Road.
Simple observation of the peak time traffic on Poole Road shows that the major causes of congestion are the side road junctions; vehicles turning in or out blocking through traffic.
