23 Mar 00£32,000 ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR MENTAL HEALTH CARE IN POOLE
Mental Heath care in Poole is set to benefit from £32,000 extra funding to develop services in the Borough.
Awarded by the Department of Health, the funding will be used to improve Mental Health care across the Borough through Poole’s new Joint Mental Health Strategy 2000-2003.
Developed by the Borough of Poole, Dorset Health Authority and Dorset HealthCare NHS Trust, the plan identifies gaps in service and 25 areas for improvement over the next three years.
Priorities in Poole include:
· 24 hour crisis help and an increase in 24 hour staffed accommodation
· Increased outreach work providing staff to help people who are difficult to reach or reluctant to seek help
· Increasing help for families and carers of people with mental health problems
· Additional day care to help those who have experienced mental health problems return to work
To develop the plan, Health and Social Services worked with GP’s, nurses, carers and people with a mental illness to audit current mental health services and assess the level of mental health care needs in Poole.
Cllr Jane James, Chairman of the Social Services Committee, said: "This money will help fund exciting new developments in mental health care. By working with the Health Authority and Dorset HealthCare NHS Trust we will ensure that everyone who needs mental health care in Poole will receive the consistent, high quality services and help they deserve".
