29 Jun 98DONT CHOKE BRITAIN - TEST YOUR CAR EMISSIONS
The Borough of Poole is offering free car emissions tests as part of this year's national Don't Choke Britain campaign.
The car testing, from 12-5 pm on Friday 26 June at Tesco, Tower Park, is part of the Council's response to the 1998 campaign, which aims to reduce air pollution. This event in particular helps to prevent pollution and raise awareness of the issue of car usage.
Environmental Health Officer Charles MacMillan said: "The exhaust emission test gives a picture of how efficiently a car engine is running. A correctly tuned engine will give more miles to the gallon and will reduce air pollution which helps to prevent global warming."
The first car to be tested, supervised by Poole Mayor Cllr Graham Curtis, will be the Borough of Poole Mayoral limousine APR 1.
Both petrol and diesel driven engines will be tested by Hometune technicians from Poole Contract Services free of charge. The event demonstrates close liaison between private enterprise and the local authority.
Diesel car owners should note that they must have a current service history including the change of cam-belt as directed by manufacturers, oil level to the maximum and the engine warmed up.
