30 Jun 98CRIME WATCH AT BROADSTONE LIBRARY
Broadstone residents can help in the fight against crime on their doorsteps by talking to members of their local 'Neighbourhood Watch' team. They are one of the largest in the area and hold a regular surgery on the last Saturday of every month (except December), between 10am and 12 noon at Broadstone Library.
On hand to answer a wide range of questions about all aspects of security are Babs Benstead (Secretary), Denis Philips (Chairman) and Home Beat officer WPC Chris Bickerstaff.
They aim to highlight the need for increasing awareness of what is happening in the neighbourhoods of Broadstone particularly in the light of increasing burglaries and car crime.
Crime prevention is a crucial part of their work and Dennis Philips is in regular contact with the Home Office and provides information for the Borough and its residents.
WPC Chris Bickerstaff said: "I am pleased to make use of the welcoming and friendly atmosphere at Broadstone Library. Its a great opportunity to promote the Home Beat Officer's role as the approachable face of the Police Force."
Chris wants to be seen as the old 'Village Bobby' taking the Police into the community, listening to their problems and concerns and offering advice mainly on crime but also on welfare issues, nuisance problems and child safety through the 'Stranger Danger' campaign.
