750 fascinating facts and figures

Waterfront Museum, July-November 1998

The Waterfront Museum is about to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the granting of the Longespée Charter to the town by unveiling in its summer exhibition 750 facts, figures or objects which make Poole unique and interesting.

Visitors can learn that Poole has produced two Miss Worlds..... that the famous Lava Lamps are made in Poole.... that King Charles II visited Poole in 1665.... that a local baker designed the wedding cake for Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew.... that Poole is the only place in Dorset where the black rat is found.... and that the famous artist Augustus John lived here in the early years of this century.

Visitors will see lava lamps, unusual fish, Jerry Hall "designer" swimwear, a wedding cake 7 feet high, strange objects recovered from Poole Harbour and much more.

The exhibition is open
Monday to Saturday from 10-00am until 5-00pm
Sundays from Noon until 5-00pm
Admission is charged with the usual concessions
