POOLE CELEBRATES EXTRA FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS

The Borough of Poole is celebrating the latest funding awards, totalling almost £250,000, from Central Government.

The DfEE has targeted specific funds to assist authorities with the provision of additional classrooms to enable class sizes for 4 - 7 year olds to be reduced to a maximum of 30 pupils.

Poole has been awarded £83,000 to provide an additional classroom at Talbot Combined School. This classroom will be constructed in conjunction with the new extension that will replace eight mobile classrooms.

Dewi Thomas, Headteacher of the school, said: "The completion of our building project will provide wonderful opportunities for our pupils and enables the Borough of Poole to resolve a longstanding accommodation issue, freeing up local resources to assist other schools."

Poole has also been awarded £32,000 under the DfEE's Energy Efficiency Grant. Cllr Annette Brooke, Chair of Poole’s Education Committee, said: "Wonderful news – this funding will allow us to make further improvements to bring Poole schools up to a standard of excellence."

A project for St Joseph's School has been placed on the reserve list. It is anticipated this project will be approved when costing details have been finalised.
