The Borough of Poole has published details about its new Education Development Plan. This is a new requirement by the Government for each education authority to publish a three-year plan to raise standards in schools.
In Poole, the Education Authority will be consulting schools, governors, parents and other members of the education community to gather views. Poole has already established successful forums for governors, parents and pupils and these will all be consulted. The Council will also be hosting several meetings in the community in September to consult more widely.
The Education Development Plan has to set out performance targets for schools and the Authority itself. It also needs to identify around seven priorities for improvement. The plan is intended to challenge and support schools as they set targets for pupil achievement. The Education Committee has recently approved the plans for this new initiative.
Cllr Annette Brooke, Chairman of the Education Committee, said: "This will be the first time that education authorities have to set clear targets for school performance."
Jeff Hart, Chief Schools Adviser in Poole, said: "We have striven hard to develop good relationships with schools, governors, parents and other members of the education community. For example, in the Spring we agreed Literacy Targets with all schools in partnership and through helpful discussion.
"We look forward to extending this work and agreeing further targets with our schools. The Authority’s role is to ensure that we have in place good advice and support to help schools meet their ambitious targets. The Government Adviser has already met our Headteachers and was impressed by their determination to provide the best possible education."
