15 Jul 98GOOD FIRST YEAR FOR POOLE'S HOME INSPECTION SERVICE
BOROUGH of Poole’s Registration and Inspection Service, which protects vulnerable people living in residential care homes, reports a successful first year of operation.
The service, part of the Council’s Adult Social Services (Commissioning) Unit, is responsible for monitoring and registering homes for older people as well as both adults and children with special needs.
Poole, which took on the service from Dorset County Council in April 1997, is responsible for 61 homes and 24 ‘small’ homes, which together provide 1173 beds for vulnerable people in the community.
The service investigates any complaints about care homes and registers new home proprietors as well as de-registering people where necessary.
Mark Goodman, Head of the Registration and Inspection Service, said: "It has been a good first year setting up the service and establishing contacts with all the residential homes and providing advice along with other Council units.
"It’s important to look at the homes where older people are living and the care they receive, but also to review the needs of people under retirement age who are physically frail or have mental health needs."
Inspection reports are available to the public through from Poole Reference Library, at any registered home or by contacting the Registration and Inspection Service on (01202) 261160.
