15 Jul 98POOLE CARERS POLICY
The new Carers Policy and Good Practice Guidelines document issued by the Social Service Units at the Borough of Poole during National Carers Week (8-14 June 1998) is being presented to the Social Services Committee on 16 July. The document is the result of extensive consultation with care professionals, including many from the independent and voluntary sector, as well as with the carers of Poole themselves.
Carers are people who have someone dependent on them for help with daily living because of an illness or disability. They can be any age, including children and young people.
The guidelines highlight the services and support that is available to carers from Social Services and other community agencies and will help professionals to be more effective in meeting the needs of people who care at home for relatives and friends with an illness or disability.
Val Mitchell, Borough of Poole's Carers Support Officer, says "The guidelines have received a very positive response both locally and nationally and in particular have been enthusiastically received by the National Carers Association."
