Having somebody in the family with a long term illness or disability often places a great responsibility on children, who spend much of their spare time fulfilling a caring role.
To give these children a break and, if they want it, the opportunity to share their feelings with others in a similar situation, Poole Social Services and Dorset Scope have joined forces to provide three activity fun days for young carers and brothers and sisters of children with disabilities living in Poole.
The fun days, which will include visits to local venues, will be based at Langside School in Parkstone and aim to offer the children an experience which is both informative and therapeutic with the overall emphasis on having fun.
Val Mitchell, Poole’s Carers Support Officer, said: "There are an estimated 51,000 children in the UK who care for other people.
"Having someone in the family with a long-term illness or disability can obviously affect these children and can sometimes cause problems. The aim of this project is to offer them support and a break."
The fun days will be held on, 29 and 31 July and 5 August. Places are limited and should be booked through Kathleen Vanderveld at Dorset Scope, on (01202) 718266
