GOOD NEWS FOR SHOPPERS USING POOLE'S CAR PARKS

Two initiatives in Poole's town centre car parks will make shopping easier and benefit traders in the town.

More short term parking is now available for visitors and shoppers after season ticket parking in both Prosperous Street and New Orchard car parks was converted to short stay parking.

There is now a maximum stay of four hours in these car parks with a "pay and display" system of charging.

Cllr Mark Howlett, Chairman of the Borough of Poole's Traffic Sub-committee said: "This will be of benefit to the town's traders by allowing greater vehicle turnover and for the motorist providing a wider choice of Town Centre parking close to shops and amenities."

And a trial scheme to provide parent and child spaces in the Town Centre is to be expanded after proving popular with car park users.

The first bays were provided at Kingland Road multi-storey, the town's largest car park. The bays are wider enabling parents to open car doors fully and to seat or remove their children with less difficulty.

Poole is already a leader in the provision of parking for specially targeted groups through its "Shopmobility" scheme.

Cllr Howlett said: "The pilot scheme has proved so popular the Borough of Poole has decided to double the number of parent and child spaces at Kingland Road car park and will implement the scheme at all of its other multi-storey car parks."
