Plastic swipe cards may replace the traditional payment books for 2,800 Poole Council tenants who make payment of their rent at Post Offices.
Borough of Poole’s Housing Committee is being asked to approve the change from 1 April 1999 at their meeting on 21 July.
It is envisaged that the plastic cards will save money, increase the accuracy of payment information and speed up the processing of payments.
Cllr Joyce Jones, Chairman of the Housing Committee, said: "Taking advantage of modern technology will bring benefits to both tenants and the Council.
"Plastic cards are very much a part of life these days and going on the experience of Councils who have already introduced them we are sure they will be quickly accepted by tenants as a convenient system for paying rent."
