A retired music teacher who attended a Writing for Pleasure and Profit course in Poole’s Adult Education programme has had a short story published in the current World Wide Writers magazine.
Way to Go, a poignant tale set in Manhattan, will now be considered for the £3,000 annual award and Waterford trophy.
Audrey Ingram is just one of several students who have been successful. Several have been published, short-listed in national competitions and broadcast on radio.
Apart from short fiction and poetry others are making headway on novels, children’s stories and script writing.
John Jenkins, who is a tutor for the Writing for Cash and Satisfaction course, said: "I was delighted at the talent shown by my group and in the way they helped each other.
"Writing can be a lonely business and the fact of belonging to a group greatly helped my students."
Poole runs several courses in creative writing. You can pick up a brochure at your library to check details and enrol.
