17 Jul 98POOLE DOES WELL IN PERFORMANCE COMPARISONS
Poole’s Band D Council Tax is lower than the average for similar authorities, the Audit Commission has revealed.
The Borough of Poole’s Performance Review Committee (20 July 1998) will receive a report from the Commission, an independent national body, comparing the Council’s spending with a ‘family’ of similar Councils for 1997/8.
Poole is compared with 15 other Unitary councils, including Bath, Swindon, York, Solihull and Stockport.
Performance Review Committee Chairman Cllr Richard Linsley Hood said: "I welcome the confirmation that we are a low-spending, high-performing Council.
"It will be interesting to compare these figures with the results from the MORI opinion poll we are conducting with Poole people."
The Audit Commission’s reports are highly regarded across the country and give Poole a test against which to scrutinise its spending.
The more detailed service-by-service analysis undertaken by the Commission will be considered by the Council’s individual service committees as part of their performance review and planning later in the year.
