Following on from the success of the previous three years the organisers of the 2005 Poole Word and Book Festival are promising a programme to delight and entertain even bigger audiences this year. This year's festival is bigger than ever before and will take place from October 1-9 with a pre launch event taking place at the Civic Centre on Friday 30 September.
The event is co-ordinated by the Borough of Poole's Arts Development Unit in conjunction with a number of partners. This year also features expert arts event organiser Matt Holland, who as co-ordinator of the Swindon Literature Festival, has had over 20 years of experience of running a successful event and has succeeded in bringing to Poole some excellent authors and activities.
The festival will see a number of exciting events and activities taking place at venues all over the borough including Ottakar's and WHSmiths in the town centre plus Poole libraries, Lighthouse
- Poole's centre for the arts, The Blue Boar pub and many others.
This year's line up includes regular Radio 4 broadcaster Matt Harvey who begins the festival on the September 30. Poet, broadcaster, comedian, story-writer, published author and veteran of the festival circuit, his work tackles tricky issues such as lonely hearts, teabags, gigabyte, curtains and everyone's longing to be loved. Tony Hillier takes poetry to the people and pays you a £1 to listen - watch out watch out there's a poet about! Clive Aslet, award winning writer of Country Life will be telling us about landmarks of Britain and Chinese author and broadcaster Xinran, whose first book The Good Women of China, was an international best seller, tells Shu Wen's story in her latest book, Sky Burial.
Nickola Moore, Arts Development Manager, Culture & Community Learning, Borough of Poole, said: "We are very excited about this year's festival which we hope will encourage greater audiences than ever before to enjoy all things literary. Together with a programme of marvellous authors you can take part in a Poetry slam! enjoy a creative writing workshop or even learn how to get published. For all those budding writers or just word enthusiasts - there's something for everybody in this year's festival."
