23 Jul 98QUAY HOST SCHEME GOES FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH
Following the success of last year’s pilot scheme on the Quay, the Poole Host Initiative has been developed this year to include the High Street with a team of five young people patrolling during July and August.
In addition to the tourist information services provided by the hosts, there is an element of monitoring tidiness, and encouraging visitors and traders to take a pride in the area. This joint funded scheme has attracted interest this year from the Town Centre Initiative which is a partnership of retailers and the Borough of Poole working together to improve the appearance and appeal of the High Street and approaches to the Town Centre.
Pam Turner, the Dolphin Centre Manager said " After the success of the pilot scheme on the Quay last year, it seemed an ideal initiative for us to support. The funding which we can contribute will provide an extra two hosts who can patrol the High Street and be a high profile presence in the town."
Additional commercial funding is provided by Poole Pottery who have continued to support the scheme. "We realise that the Hosts are providing the opportunity for tourists to make the most of the their visit to Poole by drawing attention to all the attractions which are available." said Managing Director, Peter Mills.
Co-ordinated by the Tourism Section of Poole Marketing Services, the scheme also has the support of Consumer Protection Services and Highways and Transportation Services for duties relating to cleansing and car park support.
