Poole's Future Education Plans

Residents of Poole are invited to attend evening meetings to discuss education in the Borough. The focus of each meeting will be on the priorities for the new Education Development Plan, which the government now requires all local education authorities to produce.

The Policy Director for Education, Dr Shirley Goodwin, will outline proposed development areas for the Borough and Jeff Hart, Chief Adviser, will also speak.

There are five meetings being mounted and members of the community are warmly invited to attend any of them:

Tuesday, September 22nd, 7.00pm at Oakdale South Road Middle School, School Lane, Poole.

Wednesday, September 23rd, 7.00pm at Haymoor Middle School, Ashdown Close, Hamworthy, Poole

Monday, October 5th, 7.00pm at Hamworthy Middle School, Ashmore Crescent, Hamworthy, Poole

Wednesday, October 7th, 7.00pm at The Civic Centre, Park Gates, Poole

Tuesday, October 13th, 7.00pm at Alderney Middle School, Evering Avenue, Parkstone, Poole

Councillor Annette Brooke, Chairman of the Education Committee said, 'The new Education Development Plan is an exciting and powerful opportunity for education in Poole. The priorities for improvement must build on the hard work and success experienced in our schools."

Jeff Hart, Chief Adviser, added, "It will be a challenge for us all to channel our aspirations for the future into a small number of priorities. However, this new Plan will help to ensure that changes are manageable and focussed on enabling our pupils to achieve their best."

"We have already established in Poole a network of good practice and information which bodes well for the Education Development Plan. Advisers successfully agreed literacy targets for primary schools last year and now we must agree a wider range of targets for all schools. These targets will help identify the key priorities for improvement across the Borough."

"We are consulting all our partners in education through regular meetings and groups. These five additional evening meetings are intended to ensure that all members of the community have the opportunity to contribtute."
