15 Oct 04Poole Youth Conference
Bonfire night preparations and green grocers littered with pumpkins can mean only one thing: it’s October. A group from Poole Youth Forum The conference is about giving young people the opportunity to be heard and make a difference. There will be two workshops, ‘Working With The Police, Not Against Them’, and ‘Striving for Excellence’, which will be a good opportunity for you to speak your mind and be heard, meet new people and break down those generation barriers. There will also be a question panel where different organisations from Poole will answer those burning questions. For young budding politicians out there, there is the chance to talk to local MPs Annette Brooke and Robert Syms, and question them on their work concerning the general public and the Government. There are also many other guests and organisations including Wilts and Dorset, the Chief Executive from Connexions Andrew Williams, a Superintendent from the Dorset Police, Principal of Bournemouth and Poole College, Roland Foote, Neal Butterworth who is editor of the Echo, two of Poole’s councillors, Cllr Brian Leverett and Cllr Brian Clements, Head of Youth Services at the Borough of Poole, Peter Read and Member of Youth Parliament Ruth Bessant. We have also planned stalls for young people to browse through including Fairtrade, Connexions, sport, Quay Advice, Poole Youth Forum, and the Hopes for Homes charity. A buffet will also be provided to keep everyone’s energy levels brimming throughout the day. Lucy Moseley, PR Youth Co-ordinator, said: "So if you want to make a difference or feel like some of our guests should be questioned on their policies, then take this opportunity to give young people a voice at this year’s Youth Conference."
