Poole Households urged to recycle old Yellow Pages in kerbside scheme

Householders across Poole are being urged to participate in a Yellow Pages recycling campaign, which starts when the new edition of the Bournemouth directory, featuring the ‘walking fingers’ logo on the front cover, is delivered across the area.

The campaign is being run by the Borough of Poole and supported by the Directory Recycling Scheme link will open in new window, which is sponsored by Yellow Pages. The aim is to collect thousands of old Yellow Pages – featuring sandcastles on the front cover - and recycle them in special collection banks or the kerbside boxes.

The campaign has been boosted by a grant from the Directory Recycling Scheme to the Borough of Poole.

Councillor Jonathan Pethen, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "Working with Yell and our own local industries is a great opportunity to develop and enhance recycling initiatives and we are keen to develop further partnerships with other external companies. This scheme is a very simple and easy way for residents to dispose of their Yellow Pages Directory and we encourage everyone to get involved."

From November, banks clearly displaying Yellow Pages recycling stickers will be sited at the following locations:

  • Somerfields car park, Canford Heath \n

  • Homebase car park, Redlands, Branksome \n

  • Sainsbury car park, Pitwines \n

All Yellow Pages collected will be taken to Perrys Recycling where they will be recycled into animal bedding.

Rachel Holt, recycling and waste minimisation officer with the Borough of Poole said: "It has never been easier to recycle your old Yellow Pages. Simply place them in your regular kerbside box or take them to a special collection bank."

Adam Billiald, co-ordinator of the Directory Recycling Scheme, said: "Supporting local authorities to recycle directories is a major environmental strategy for Yellow Pages. I encourage everyone to do their bit for the environment and recycle their directory via the council’s kerbside scheme or special collection banks."
